The Coquina Coast Seawater Desalination Project, as currently proposed, is a seawater desalination project that consists of four main components including: intake, treatment, concentrate management, and distribution. Development of the project would be phased with the initial phase designed to provide 20 million gallons per day (MGD) of potable water with an ultimate capacity of 70 MGD. The source of water will be the Atlantic Ocean off shore of Flagler, St. Johns, or Volusia counties. A reverse osmosis (RO) treatment facility is proposed to treat the seawater to potable standards. The permitting process for concentrate disposal will address environmental impacts and ongoing monitoring. Distribution of potable water from the facility to users will take place using existing infrastructure to the extent possible but will require construction of some additional transmission and storage facilities.
